Chunc in the community: Donating wheelchairs to Sierra Leone

At Chunc, we are proud and privileged to have the opportunity to give back to our communities both locally and globally. Every wheelchair we produce counts, which is why wherever possible we aim to redistribute and reuse wheelchairs to give to those who need it most, whether in the UK or worldwide.

In conjunction with our parent company HR Smith Group, we have been working in partnership with Cornerstone Hythe URC, a UK-based charity of volunteers carrying out extraordinary work in Sierra Leone to support some of the poorest communities within the region by improving their access to the most basic amenities and infrastructure. Collaborating with a local church in Sierra Leone called Divine Grace Ministries, Cornerstone Hythe URC helps build infrastructure and resources ranging from repairing wells to setting up small businesses.

Giving back: Stephen Baker, Cornerstone Hythe URC

After a recent visit to Sierra Leone, Stephen Baker, volunteer at Cornerstone Hythe URC reported back on how a recent donation of two Chunc wheelchairs is playing a key part in helping Sorrie and Mohammed enhance their quality of life.

“Sorrie can take about four steps with the aid of two sticks but has trouble getting from the sitting to the standing position. They were so excited to receive the chairs that they would not get out of them and just wanted to be pushed around. The tilt system on your chair is just what they need.”

Baker added: “Thanks to your donation, Mohammed will no longer have to drag himself across the stony soil where the legs of his skin are hard and scaled.”

“We are thankful to Chunc for supplying us with wheelchairs. These things are making a difference.”
