From Army veteran to seating specialist, Ian has served our customers across the UK for nearly a decade. With vast experience and a dedication to making a difference in the lives of young people, Ian’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. In this spotlight, we delve into what makes Ian tick and his key role at Chunc.

Q: Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

I recently celebrated my pearl wedding anniversary with my wife, Maggie. I’m a proud father of three children and a grandfather to three delightful grandchildren. I joined the Army at 16 in 1987, serving in the Scots Guards, where I rose to the rank of Company Sergeant Major. In 2009, I took a Late Entry Commission in the Army Air Corps as a Captain, serving with the Apache Helicopter Force until 2013. After a 26-year military career, I transitioned to civilian life, initially working as a Rehab Engineer for a leading healthcare plan provider and progressing to become an Area Mobility Consultant. I love cycling, running, and 80s music.

Q: What attracted you to joining Chunc?

I have always enjoyed the world of mobility and the opportunity to change lives. Joining Chunc allowed me to expand my knowledge, skillset, and experience. Every day is a school day, as they say.

Q: Give an overview of what your role entails and what you like about your role

As a Seating Specialist, I work with the NHS, private clients, case management, and social services, providing advice, guidance, and aftercare in seating and mobility for young people with often complex disabilities. Meeting remarkable people each day and playing a part in helping them achieve further independence and enhance their quality of life is such a rewarding aspect of my role. I have also been responsible for growing the business in my area and forming strong business relationships with various professionals across the healthcare sector. In short, I make it easy to work with both business and consumer clients by being an integral part of each team. Effective communication helps me play a key role in improving the lives of our clients.

Q: Is there anything about yourself that might surprise your team members?

During my time in the Scots Guards, I was part of the Royal Guard while the Royal Family was in residence. I had the unique honour of dancing the Gay Gordons with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at a ball at the Castle.
