The Octoback is constructed using a modular system based on the structure of the human spine, comprising adjustable vertical “vertebrae” and lateral “rib” elements.

The vertical structure allows the overall backrest height to be increased or reduced by selecting the required number of tiers. Each tier can then be configured independently, with lateral “ribs” (links) added to the left, right, or both sides to provide targeted support.

This enables clinicians to address asymmetry directly, including accommodating and following scoliotic curves. The number and position of links can be specified at each level, allowing support to be built up precisely where it is needed.

The ribs can be repositioned, angled, or removed, enabling fine adjustment of support across the trunk. This tier-by-tier and side-specific configuration allows the system to be tailored to the individual’s shape and postural presentation, and adjusted over time as needs change.
