Case Study – Bendrigg Trust

Kate McCallum, Volunteer Coordinator at Bendrigg Trust talks about how our Chunc wheelchair range is enabling her guests to make the most of the great outdoors.

Supporting Guests with comfort and function

In November 2022, Chunc generously donated a refurbished Chunc One to Bendrigg Trust.

With features like tilt-in-space, harness access for climbing, abseiling, zip wire, and sensory swings is simple. Guests can be seated safely and comfortably, giving a better all-round experience.

The clamping points also make the chair ideal for rigging on wheelchair abseils, and the tilt function allows safe access to indoor spaces like the Trust’s cave without compromising postural support.

Real impact: ella’s adventure

One guest, Ella, used the Chunc One during her winter stay. Kate describes:
“Ella could access archery with ease — the chair gave her freedom of movement while providing the postural support needed to use a bow. She used it for all harnessed activities too. By the end of the weekend, her mum and Ella asked if she could take it home because it was so easy to push, even over rough ground.”

first class support in action

The donation of the Chunc One has allowed Bendrigg Trust to deliver epic, memory-making experiences to every guest, enabling adventure, inclusion, and independence.

Kate concludes:
“Thank you to Chunc for supporting the Trust and all of our guests — your chairs make a real difference.”
