Case Study – Oisin

Restoring Comfort, Safety, and Independence

Meet Oisin

When Natalie contacted us late one Thursday morning, she was at her wits’ end. Her 15-year-old son, Oisin, relies on his seating system every day. He is non-verbal, has complex postural needs, and uses movement as an essential part of his therapy.

Without the right support, even simple daily activities become incredibly challenging. But for weeks, Oisin had been without a safe, usable chair.

The Challenge

Oisin’s wheelchair had become damaged and unsafe to use:

  • The seat pan had bent, making it unsafe to sit on
  • A lateral support had split, exposing metal and causing bruising
  • The push handles had worn down to bare metal
  • He was unable to get outside – something vital for his wellbeing

With no resolution in sight, the situation was taking its toll.
Oisin was spending up to 12 hours a day on the floor, becoming increasingly distressed without the movement and support he depends on.

Stepping In

With no clear answers or confirmed timeline for repair at that stage, due to ongoing changes within the approved repair pathway and local wheelchair services, Oisin’s situation had reached a point where urgent action was needed.

Working closely with our partner, BES Healthcare in Ireland, we prioritised Oisin’s case and moved quickly to find a solution.
Within just 22 hours, his chair was fully repaired, safe, and ready to use again.

The Outcome

The impact was immediate. Oisin was able to return to his chair, regaining the comfort, support, and movement that are such an important part of his daily life. Just as importantly, he could get back outside again.

For his family, it meant relief, reassurance, and a return to normality.
Natalie is already planning their next walk.
